FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Beckley Native Pens Book to Celebrate West Virginia’s 150th Anniversary

Kenova, West Virginia, January 20, 2013 – Danny Pettry II has written and self-published 150 Wonderful Things You Should Know About West Virginia: A Celebration of West Virginia’s 150th Anniversary.

Pettry is a proud West Virginian who loves his state. He was born and raised in Beckley, W.Va.  and he went to Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. He earned a degree in Park Resources and Leisure Services with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation from Marshall University in 2002. He went to work as a Recreational Therapist at River Park Hospital (Huntington, W.Va) right after he graduated in 2002. River Park Hospital awarded Danny Pettry as a Service Excellence Hero of the month for July 2012 and acknowledged Pettry for a decade of service in August 2012.

Pettry was tired of the many negative stereotypes that are often portrayed about The Mountain State. He decided the 150th anniversary of the state was an appropriate time to start promoting a new, more positive image for the state through the use of a new book.

West Virginia is a state that has a unique history, many interesting facts, and some of the best outdoor recreation opportunities in the nation. West Virginians are known for their strong work ethic, too. The state flag portrays two workers, including a miner and a farmer. Pettry’s new book is a quick and easy-to-explore question and answer book that is packed with interesting knowledge about West Virginia.

Readers will discover many amazing and astonishing facts about West Virginia. Here are a few questions in the book:

·         Why did West Virginia breakaway from Virginia?

·         Which U. S. President’s mother was born in Hampshire County, Virginia that is currently known as Mineral County, West Virginia?

·         What famous holiday was founded in West Virginia?

·         What is the Backyard Brawl?

·         What is the Pumpkin House?

·         What is Bridge Day?

·         Who are some Famous People from West Virginia?

·         And so much more.
