4. When did Virginia become a state?

Answer: June 25, 1788

The Commonwealth of Virginia was the 10^th state and one of the original 13 colonies. West Virginia was part of the Commonwealth of Virginia from 1776 until 1863.

 

The Commonwealth of Kentucky was granted permission from Virginia to separate from Virginia in 1792 becoming the 15^th state to join the union.
